Graffiti Shapes

After my initial graffiti shapes and drawings, I decided to develop this further. I realised that graffiti is rather abstract and if you zoom in on certain areas, you get interesting shapes and compositions as a result.

I decided to scale up certain areas of my graffiti photographs and then paint them onto paper. This helped me to see the different shapes in graffiti and made me think of the compositions I could create using these shapes.

The most successful designs of this were the designs that had the most geometric shapes within them. I think this was because it still retained the feeling of graffiti within the abstract shapes. Designs 2, 3 and 4 do not work as well due to the lack of geometric shapes as well as having too much white space.

I tried to remedy this by also including designs with colour and cut out sections in order to be able to see how I can fill up the white spaces. This has also helped me in my digital designing process as the graffiti shapes can help me to compose my other drawings in interesting and abstract compositions.

When it comes to screen printing, I want to use these drawings as inspiration for my stencils. I would create screens with these designs, but I feel like I can do exactly the same job using stencils and preventing exposing another screen that could negatively impact the environment.
